Neighbours Day 2016, in Freyberg Square, provided a great opportunity for city centre residents and visitors to the city to meet up and enjoy the free barbecue, music, food, art, chess and other games.
With buskers providing a relaxing musical vibe, the Splice free barbecue in action and a play zone for children there was something for everyone.
The art activity provided by Toi Ora was a hit, with a constant stream of budding and accomplished artists taking the opportunity to show their skills.
Locals enjoyed the opportunity to meet neighbours and were invited to leave written comments and suggestions around their city centre life. These were mostly very positive and it seems that in general city centre residents love their ‘neighbourhood’, for everything from its convenience to its cultural diversity.
Visitors, including tourists commented what a fantastic idea Neighbours Day is and one young American was so impressed he was adamant he was going to set up a similar event when he went home!
Splice invites city centre residents to continue connecting our city centre ‘neigbourhood’ by linking with us on www.splice.org.nz and offering ideas and support.
